Dos & Don’ts of Laser Hair Removal

Dos & Don’ts of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one of the best investments you can make for smooth, fuss-free skin. By following these do's and don'ts, you’ll protect your skin, get better results, and make your sessions as comfortable and effective as possible.

Dos Before Your Laser Hair Removal Session

  • Do shave the area 24 hours before your appointment.
    • This ensures the laser targets the follicle, not the hair above the skin.
  • Do keep your skin clean and free of products on the day of the session.
    • Skip perfumes, deodorants, heavy moisturisers, and makeup on the area.
  • Do wear loose clothing to your appointment.
    • Tight clothes can rub against treated areas afterward and cause irritation.
  • Do protect your skin from sun exposure in the weeks leading up to treatment.
    • Avoid tanning beds or long sun exposure to prevent sensitivity and hyperpigmentation.
  • Do stay hydrated.
    • Drinking water keeps your skin healthy and helps with recovery.

Don’ts Before Your Laser Hair Removal Session

  • Don’t wax, pluck, or use hair removal creams for at least 3–4 weeks before your session.
    • The laser needs the hair follicle to be intact.
  • Don’t tan (including self-tanner) right before your treatment.
    • Tanned skin can make the laser less effective and increase irritation risk.
  • Don’t skip shaving.
    • Longer hair above the skin can burn and create discomfort during the session.

Dos After Your Laser Hair Removal Session (Aftercare)

  • Do keep the area cool.
    • Use a cold compress or aloe vera gel for 24 hours if there’s redness or mild swelling.
  • Do moisturise and hydrate your skin.
    • Gentle, fragrance-free creams or aloe gel help keep your skin soft.
  • Do use sunscreen daily.
    • Treated skin is sensitive to UV, so SPF 30+ or 50+ is a must for at least a week.
  • Do wear loose, breathable clothing.
    • Avoid friction on the treated area to reduce irritation.
  • Do shave between sessions if needed.
    • Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading to preserve the hair follicle for future treatments.

Don’ts After Your Laser Hair Removal Session

  • Don’t scratch, pick, or rub the area.
    • Even mild irritation can cause redness or bumps.
  • Don’t expose your skin to heat (saunas, hot baths, steam rooms) for 24–48 hours.
  • Don’t use harsh skincare like retinoids, acids, or exfoliants on the treated area for a few days.
  • Don’t get discouraged if hair grows back between sessions.
    • Hair grows in cycles; multiple sessions are needed for long-term results.

Extra Tips

  • Plan your appointments around your schedule. Avoid sessions right before vacations or big events — minor redness may appear for a day or two.
  • Take before-and-after photos. It’s satisfying to see progress, and it helps you track hair reduction.
  • Be patient. Most clients notice significant reduction after 3–4 sessions, but full results take time.
